Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) has been providing contactless smart cards for Automatic Fare Collection programmes for public transit since 1996.

G&D has developed a transit system Gateway that acts as a card management system. This system ensures that transit tickets are always in stock as well as managing personalisation, initialisation and activation of transit tickets.
