G&D values and respects the environment, and acknowledges its corporate social responsibility to pro-actively engage in all fundamental aspects of environmental protection.
The G&D Code of Conduct includes references to sustainability practices that embrace sensitivities in our physical environment and includes aspects such as OH&S, fire protection and the broader engagement of our people. Consequently, the company has an Environmental Policy that incorporates the establishment of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) in appropriate subsidiaries around the world.
There have been progressive ISO 14001: 2004 accreditations for a number of G&D operations in Brazil, China, Germany, Slovenia, and Spain, with several others in the process of EMS implementations, including Australia.
As a consumer of energy and raw materials, we are cognizant of the growing need to develop and use more environmentally sound materials, to source recycled materials where appropriate, to recycle used and waste materials where possible, to save energy and reduce emissions.
We systematically determine, document and evaluate all our activities that have an impact on the environment. On this basis, we derive improvement goals and action plans, and regularly monitor our progress in achieving these goals.
G&D in Australia has set targets for overall footprint reduction through waste management and recycling practices based on benchmarks established and documented in 2008. Globally we have had significant activity in the development of more environmentally friendly card bodies such as biodegradable material such as corn starch, 100% PET-G suitable also use of recycled PVC and PET-G.
Giesecke & Devrient informs and trains its employees to increase and develop their environmental awareness, and counts on their ideas and experience to devise new, innovative projects, and deliver continuous improvement in our processes, efficiencies and outputs. We also require our suppliers and contract partners to be environmentally responsible in their own activities, and report specific progress to us.
